Vatnajökull National Park is a unique and spectacular destination, shaped by the dynamic nature of fire and ice. The park encompasses all of the Vatnajökull glacier and extensive surrounding areas, including the national parks at Skaftafell and Jökulsárgljúfur. With a surface area of around 8,100 km2, Vatnajökull is Europe's largest glacier, concealing several mountains, valleys, and plateaus, as well as active central volcanoes. The park's landscape is characterized by a great variety of features, created by the combined forces of rivers, glacial ice, and volcanic and geothermal activity.
