Fjallsárlón

Glacial lagoon Sveitarfélagið Hornafjörður, Suðurland, Iceland

What to expect

Fjallsárlón is a glacial lagoon located on the southern end of Vatnajökull glacier. It is a peaceful place with a steep glacier tongue, Fjallsjökull, coming down from Vatnajökull and all the way into the lagoon, making it perfect for photos and enjoying untouched nature. The lagoon is home to hundreds of icebergs, each with unique shapes and sizes, and visitors can take boat tours to get up close to them. There is also a bistro on site offering refreshments. The lagoon is less crowded than its nearby counterpart, Jökulsárlón, making it a great alternative for those looking for a more serene experience. Visitors can also spot wildlife such as seals and seabirds, including Skuas, which are known to be protective of their nests during the summer months
