Grettislaug

Hot spring Sveitarfélagið Skagafjörður, Norðurland Vestra, Iceland

What to expect

Grettislaug is a hot pool in North Iceland, located on the shores of Skagifjörður. It boasts excellent views of the surrounding mountains and sea, including Drangey Island. The pool is named after the main character of one of Iceland's most famous Sagas, Grettis Saga. According to the saga, Grettir, an outlaw, swam from Drangey Island to the shore and bathed in the hot spring to prevent himself from dying from the chill of the sea. The pool has changing facilities on site and the water is approximately 39 degrees Celsius. There is also a camping site and a guesthouse on the premises. Grettislaug is a great place to visit for those interested in history, nature, and relaxation
