Hengifoss is the third highest waterfall in Iceland, located in Hengifossá in Fljótsdalshreppur, East Iceland. It is surrounded by basaltic strata with thin, red layers of clay between the basaltic layers and features fossilized trunks of coniferous trees. The waterfall is 128 meters high and is a popular hiking site, with a path leading from the parking lot to the falls that takes 40-60 minutes to walk. Nearby is Litlanesfoss, notable for its columnar jointed volcanics
