Mata Stud

The Máta Stud, located in the heart of the Hortobágy National Park, is one of Hungary's most significant and largest traditional horse breeding centers. With nearly 250 horses, the stud farm is home to the traditional Hungarian Nonius breed, which was declared a national treasure in 2004. The stud farm offers a unique experience for visitors, with an interactive exhibition on the history of the stud, a gift shop, and a café where you can observe the horses. The farm also offers horse carriage tours and is a great place to learn about Hungarian horse breeding and the importance of preserving traditional breeds. The stud farm is also the starting point for the 'plains carting' attraction, which draws many visitors to the region.
