Széchenyi Lánchíd

Bridge Budapest, Budapest, Hungary

What to expect

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge is a chain bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It was designed by English engineer William Tierney Clark and built by Scottish engineer Adam Clark, and was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Hungary. The bridge offers stunning views of the city, with the Parliament building dominating the riverside in Pest and Castle Hill towering at the Buda end. Visitors can walk across the bridge, taking in the sights and sounds of the city, and enjoy the picturesque views of the Danube River. The bridge is also a great spot for photos, especially at night when the city lights reflect in the water. The bridge has a rich history, having been built in the 1840s and rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II. It was reopened in 1949 and has since become a iconic symbol of Budapest
