What to expect

Volcán Acatenango is a stratovolcano in Guatemala, close to the city of Antigua. It is part of the mountain range of the Sierra Madre. The volcano has two peaks, Pico Mayor and Yepocapa, which is also known as Tres Hermanas. Acatenango is joined with Volcán de Fuego and collectively the volcano complex is known as La Horqueta. The volcano complex comprises remnants of multiple eruptive centres, which periodically have collapsed to form huge debris avalanches. The Acatenango Valley is a designated coffee-producing region of Anacafé

Guatemala with children: Itinerary & guide for 10 days
This family's experience:

Activities: We hiked for five hours and managed the five-hour volcano hike well. We stayed overnight in a tent at Basecamp and saw the neighboring volcano 'El Fuego' erupting. The children were thrilled

Highlights: The children were thrilled! We borrowed everything, from jackets to hats and backpacks, free of charge from the tour operator. The two-day tour cost us as a family of four, including food, tent and guide, 125 euros ✨
