Church Patra, Dytiki Ellada, Greece

What to expect

The Agiou Andreou Church, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, is a Greek Orthodox basilica in Patras, Greece. It is one of the largest Orthodox churches in Greece and the third largest Byzantine-style church in the Balkans. The church has a large dome and 12 smaller domes, with a gold-plated cross on top of the central dome. The interior is decorated with Byzantine-style wall paintings and mosaics. The church is dedicated to Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Patras, and houses relics of the apostle, including his skull, which was sent from Rome in 1964. The church is a place of pilgrimage for Christians from all over the world and is considered a symbol of the city of Patras. The nearby old church of St. Andrew, built in 1836, is also worth visiting, with its excellent wall paintings and icons of Ionian Islands style
