Balos Lagoon

Lagoon Kissamos, Crete, Greece

What to expect

Balos Lagoon is a stunning beach with turquoise waters, white and pink sand, and exotic natural beauty. The lagoon is located on the Gramvousa Peninsula and is a protected area under the Natura 2000 program, home to rare species of flora and fauna, including the Mediterranean monk seal and the loggerhead sea turtle. The beach is ideal for families with children, as the sea is shallow and warm, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The area is also a great spot for birdwatching, with many species of birds nesting in the caves and rocks. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery, take a boat tour, or hike to the nearby chapel of Saint George and the cavern where many women and children were slaughtered during the Turkish massacres in 1825
