Balos

Beach Kissamos, Crete, Greece

What to expect

Balos Beach, located in the northwest of Crete, is a stunning lagoon with turquoise waters, white sand, and a picturesque landscape. The beach is surrounded by mountains and offers a unique experience for visitors. The lagoon is shallow and warm, making it ideal for young children, and the area is home to rare species of flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, and sunbathing, and the beach is also a great spot for relaxation. The area is protected under the Natura 2000 program, and visitors can see Eleonora falcons, shags, and cormorants nesting in the caves. The beach can be accessed by car, but the road is narrow and rough, or by ferry from Kissamos. Visitors should be aware that the seabed can be muddy and the shallow waters can facilitate the growth of microorganisms, which may cause an unpleasant smell
