What to expect

Plaka is the old historical neighborhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. It is known as the 'Neighborhood of the Gods' due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites. The area is full of landmarks, Byzantine churches, and museums, including the Monument of Lysicrates, the 11th-century Church of Saint Nicholas Rangavas, the Museum of Greek Folk Art, and the Benizelos Mansion. Plaka is also home to many charming cafes, bars, traditional taverns, and souvenir shops. The neighborhood is a popular tourist destination, with many restaurants and shops, and is considered one of the nicest neighborhoods in central Athens

It’s filled with old-world charm and energy, is very walkable, which is very important to us when we travel, and is the perfect central location for a family to stay when visiting Athens for the first time
