The Kavala Castle, also known as the Fortress of Kavala, is a historic castle located at the top of the Panagia peninsula in Kavala, Greece. The castle was built on the remains of the Byzantine Acropolis of Christoupolis, which was destroyed in 1391 by the Ottomans. It took its present form in the first quarter of the 15th century and its scope was to control and protect the critical route of the Via Egnatia. The castle is well-preserved and features a unique blend of Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman architectural styles. Visitors can explore the castle's narrow streets, see the central circular tower, the guardhouse, the cistern, and the arsenal, and enjoy magnificent views of Kavala from the top of the circular tower. The castle also hosts an open-air theater where cultural events are held during the summer

Activities: We went to the Burg, which the Venetians built. It's located at the highest point in the city. Unfortunately, the door was closed when we went there
Highlights: We liked that the castle is a spätmittelalterliches Kastell (late medieval castle) at the highest point of the city. We also liked the history ✨
