What to expect
The Kamares Aqueduct, also known as the Old Aqueduct of Kavala, is a stunning monument and one of the city's most iconic landmarks. This 16th-century aqueduct is a two-tiered structure, 280 meters long and 25 meters high, made mainly of local granite with Ottoman-style brickwork. It was built to bring fresh water from the hills into the heart of the walled city and features a double tier of arches, with the lower tier having 11 wide and tall arches and the upper tier having narrower arches. The aqueduct is a testament to Kavala's strategic and architectural significance and is a must-see attraction for visitors. Its bold shape still evokes the city's layered history and connections across empires and eras, making it a great place to visit with family and friends
