The Residenzschloss Altenburg is a former residence of the Dukes of Saxony-Altenburg, located on the Schlossberg in the city of Altenburg, Thuringia, Germany. The castle features various exhibition areas, including the Herzogliche Gemächer 17./18. Jahrhundert, 19./20. Jahrhundert, and the Spielkartenmuseum. The Schlosskirche, with its famous Trost-Orgel, and the late medieval tower facilities are additional attractions. The Festsäle and the Schlosshof serve as venues for various cultural events. The castle is also the original site of the Altenburger Prinzenraub of 1455. Visitors can explore the Corps de Logis, which houses the prächtigen Residenzräumen, the Bachsaal, the barocke Festsaal, and the klassizistische Goldsaal. The Festsaal is a notable feature, with its Marmorsäulen and large Deckengemälde. The castle's history dates back to the 12th century, and it has undergone various transformations over the years, including a significant expansion during the 17th century
