Burgruine Frauenstein

Castle ruin Frauenstein, Saxony, Germany

What to expect

The ruins of Frauenstein Castle are located on a 680-metre high granite rock on the crest of the Eastern Ore Mountains. The castle was built around 1200 and was inhabited until 1588. It offers a romantic flair and is considered the most beautiful and largest castle ruin in Saxony. Today, the 13th-century tower house and the 1.5-metre-thick curtain wall remain standing. The remaining rooms include the cellar, kitchen, castle chapel, prison, two parlours, and several vaults. The castle is a great place to visit with family and friends, and since 2010, it is possible to make a covenant for life at the castle
