Eckertalsperre

Dam Ilsenburg (Harz), Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany

What to expect

The Eckertalsperre is a dam located in the Harz region of Germany, near the city of Ilsenburg. It was built between 1939 and 1943 and has a storage capacity of 13.27 million cubic meters. The dam is used for water supply, flood control, and energy production. The surrounding area is known for its natural beauty, with the dam being situated in a valley that was carved out by a glacier during the ice age. The water from the dam is used to supply the cities of Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel, and Wolfsburg. The area is also home to several moorland streams, which are rich in humic acids and have a low pH value, making the water relatively acidic but well-suited for drinking water treatment
