The Saarschleife, also known as the Great Bend in the Saar at Mettlach, is a water gap carved by the Saar River through a quartzite layer and is one of the most well-known tourist attractions of the Saarland. The area offers breathtaking views from the 'Cloef' viewing point or the treetop walk, and is also worth seeing from the water or the shore. The Saarschleife is surrounded by a forest that is largely untouched, with beech, hornbeam, and oak trees, and features a variety of wildlife. Visitors can explore the area through hiking and biking paths, and there are also historical sites such as the former cloister church of St. Gangolf and the ruins of Montclair fortress. The Treetop Walk Saarschleife is a fully accessible path that allows visitors to experience the Saarschleife from a height of 42 meters, with interesting facts about the world of nature and animals to discover. The area is also home to the Adventure Forest Saarschleife, a playground with over 25 exciting playing and learning stations
