The Rursee, also known as Rurtalsperre, is a reservoir located in the North-Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany. It is situated near the city of Simmerath and is a popular destination for outdoor activities. The reservoir is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, including the Eifel mountains and the Naturpark Hohes Venn-Eifel. The Rursee is also home to several islands, including the island of Eichert. The reservoir is approximately 7.83 km² in size and has a water volume of 202.6 million cubic meters. The Rurtalsperre dam, which is 77.4 meters high, was built between 1934 and 1938 and was later elevated by 16 meters between 1955 and 1959.
