The Villa Rustica in Blankenheim is a Roman country estate that is one of the largest of its kind in the Rhineland. The estate features a reconstructed pillared entrance hall, known as the Porticus, which gives a glimpse into the huge dimensions of the former villa. The villa was constructed at the end of the 1st century AD and was farmed until the middle of the 4th century. Visitors can explore the remains of the bathing areas, utility rooms, and annexes, as well as an impressive main building with a colonnade and a huge hall. The villa is a great place to visit for families interested in history and archaeology

Activities: We visited the Villa Rustica, an open-air museum. It's an interesting place to see what remains of the Roman settlement. The site has several information boards, describing what buildings were once there. We walked around, looking at the stone markings
Highlights: The kids might have found it a bit less exciting. 'Who with children is on the road, will perhaps be a bit disappointed.' We spent about 40 minutes at the site. It was still interesting to see the remains of the old buildings and imagine what life was like ✨
