The Dom St. Nikolai is a Gothic brick building and a landmark of the Hanseatic city of Greifswald. It is located in the western center of the city and was the main church of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church from 1947 to 2012. Today, it serves as a preaching venue for the regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany and is used by the St. Nikolai parish. The church's patronage is dedicated to Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of seafarers and merchants, which was particularly popular in the northern German coastal regions. The church is also known as 'langer Nikolaus' due to its high tower. The building has a long history, with its origins dating back to the 13th century, and it has undergone several transformations over the years, including being elevated to a collegiate church in 1457. Visitors can explore the church's historic architecture and learn about its significance in the region

Activities: We visited Dom St. Nikolai. There is a children's chapel with toys, a corner to romp around in, and a painting and handicraft table
Highlights: It was fun to visit the church and especially the children's chapel for our kid. The altar window is avant-garde and newly designed by Olafur Eliasson ✨
