The Residenzschloss Wolfenbüttel is a castle in Wolfenbüttel, Lower Saxony, Germany. It originated as a moated castle and is the second-largest surviving schloss in Lower Saxony. The castle served as the main residence of the rulers of the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1432 to 1753. Today, it houses a museum with its historic rooms on display, including the representative and private rooms designed between 1690 and 1740, which show the former splendour of courtly life. The museum also features special exhibitions on selected topics of cultural, art, and regional history. Visitors can explore the castle's baroque furniture, sculptures, and tapestries, as well as its impressive collection of paintings. The castle's vicinity is home to several historically significant buildings, including the Herzog August Bibliothek and the Lessinghaus. The city of Wolfenbüttel also offers a range of activities, such as daily city tours, SUP and canoeing tours on the river Oker, and a fairytale Christmas Market in November and December
