Hitzacker is a charming little riverside town in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district of Lower Saxony, Germany. It lies on the River Elbe and is situated at the confluence of the River Jeetzel with the Elbe. The town has a rich history, with the earliest known settlements dating back to around 3000 B.C. Hitzacker became an important trading centre in the eighth century, and it was granted town rights in 1258. The town features a local hill called Weinberg, which offers great views over the town and the River Elbe. Visitors can explore the Old Town with its quaint timber-framed houses, visit the Deer Park, or enjoy activities such as hiking, cycling, or taking a boat ride on the Elbe. The town also has several restaurants and cafes serving local cuisine, including traditional German dishes and fish from the Elbe and Jeetzel rivers
