Dialog im Dunkeln, also known as Dialogue in the Dark, is an immersive exhibition where visitors are led through a completely dark world by blind or visually impaired guides. The exhibition aims to create mutual awareness and respect for people with visual or hearing disabilities, as well as for elderly citizens. Visitors can experience everyday situations, such as visiting a street market or crossing a busy street, in total darkness, which becomes a challenge for those who are not used to it. The exhibition also offers workshops for school classes and a 'Dunkelbar' where visitors can have a conversation with their guide over a drink. The place employs more than 100 people, more than half of whom have impaired vision or hearing, and has had over 12 million visitors since its opening in 2000

Activities: We booked a 'Dialog im Dunkeln'. We were guided through different scenarios in complete darkness, including a park, a warehouse with spices, a market, and a street. We also experienced a boat trip and a sound room
Highlights: The children were amazed! 'The feeling is shockingly real'. They loved the market with fruits and vegetables. 'We are where we got in! It feels different from where we got in'. The chocolate bar at the end was a hit ✨

Activities: We went to the DiD, a guided tour in complete darkness. "With a blind stick in hand, we are guided through a total of six rooms: a park, a Speicherstadt with spices, a market, a music room where the whole room vibrates with the music, a ship and a bar in the dark."
Highlights: "I thought the whole DiD was cool because it's a special feature that you should treat yourself to from time to time. It would be stupid to be blind forever, but for 90 minutes it's really fun to explore the world in the dark." ✨
