What to expect

The Deutsches Zusatzstoffmuseum, or German Food Additives Museum, is a unique museum that sheds light on the thousands of chemical substances added to our food. The museum explains the functions, production, risks, and side effects of these additives, and features exhibits on the history of food additives, including the use of harmful substances like arsenic in the past. Visitors can learn about the different types of additives, such as emulsifiers, stabilizers, dyes, and preservatives, and even use a scanner to learn more about the ingredients in various food products. The museum aims to educate people about the additives in their food and promote awareness about the importance of informed food choices

Hamburg with children: Speicherstadt and HafenCity
This family's experience:

Activities: We visited and were the only visitors most of the time. We looked at the exhibit about the history of food chemistry and the supermarket exhibit. We scanned our groceries to find out what additives were in them

Highlights: The exhibition is small but fine. The children could be occupied in the second part of the exhibition. The supermarket experience was interesting to learn more about the food we eat ✨
