The Mauerweg, also known as the Berlin Wall Trail, is a 160-kilometer hiking and bike trail that follows the course of the former GDR border fortifications encircling West Berlin. The trail runs along the former patrol road used by customs officers in West Berlin or along the border control road used by GDR border troops for their own patrols. Along the way, visitors can see remains of the old Wall, as well as historic sites, museums, and memorials. The trail is divided into 14 individual sections, each between 7 and 21 kilometers long, making it a great way to explore the city's history and natural beauty. The trail also features signs, maps, and info markers that provide information on the division of Germany and the construction and fall of the Berlin Wall

Activities: We went on a bike tour on the Mauerweg, a really exciting activity. We cycled along the path, which brought us through Neubaugebiete and Altbaukieze, past the East Side Gallery and along the Spree. "Here you can cycle through history with children from 8 years old (or even without)"
Highlights: It was very exciting. We really enjoyed the section of the Spreeradwegs from Potsdamer Platz to Schloss Charlottenburg. We saw an old border guard tower, more than 30 years after the fall of the Wall ✨
