The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is a place of remembrance and commemoration for the up to six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It consists of a 1.9-hectare site covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or 'stelae', arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. The stelae are of different heights, and the area is open and accessible from all four sides. The memorial also features an underground Information Centre, which provides information on the victims and the locations of the Holocaust. The centre includes themed rooms such as the Room of Dimensions, the Room of Families, the Room of Names, and the Room of Sites, which deal with the fates of individuals, with photographs, diaries, and farewell letters. The memorial is a place of contemplation, remembrance, and warning, and it is located near other memorials in Berlin commemorating the victims of National Socialism
