What to expect

The Berlin Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum is a botanical garden with an area of 42 hectares and over 20,000 different plant species. The garden is part of the Free University of Berlin and attracts about half a million visitors annually. The most well-known part of the garden is the Great Pavilion of Great Tropical Greenhouse, which hosts giant bamboo and maintains a temperature of 30 °C and high air humidity. The garden complex consists of several buildings, including glass-houses with a total area of 6,000 square metres, such as the Cactus Pavilion and the Pavilion Victoria, which features a collection of orchids, carnivorous plants, and the giant white water lily Victoria amazonica. The open-air areas are sorted by geographical origin and encompass about 13 ha, and the arboretum is about 14 ha. The garden offers various activities and exhibits, making it a great place to visit with family and friends

Activities: We visited the Botanical Garden Berlin. We explored the gardens and the greenhouses, including the Tropenhaus. The kids built boats and tried to sail them on the lake. We walked the Frühlingspfad, visited the Japanese and Chinese garden, North America and the Mediterranean house

Highlights: The kids were fascinated by the Tropenhaus, with its paths over water, through caves, up and down stairs and bridges. The children were also very interested in the Japanese garden. They loved the freedom to roam around and the variety of plants and environments ✨
