What to expect

The Großer Waldstein is a mountain in the Fichtel Mountains of Germany, known for its unique rock formations, ruined castles, and scenic hiking trails. The mountain offers stunning views, and its summit area is covered by mixed forest with old stands of beech and huge rock piles. The Waldsteinhaus, a lodging house owned by the Fichtelgebirge Club, is located at the top and offers refreshments. The Großer Waldstein is also home to the remains of two castles, the Red Castle and the Ostburg, which date back to the 12th and 14th centuries. The area is a designated nature reserve, and several hiking trails lead to the mountain, including the Jean Paul Way and the Franconian Mountain Trail.
