What to expect

The Limesturm bei Erkertshofen is a reconstructed stone-built watchtower, the only one of its kind in Germany. The three-storey tower features an entrance on the first floor, a circular balcony on the second floor, and a pyramidal roof with wooden shingles. The tower was likely used by Roman soldiers for guard duty, with the ground floor serving as a storeroom and the first floor as a common room and dormitory. The balcony on the second floor offered a wide view, and its structure is based on a representation of a Limes tower on the Trajan's Column in Rome. Visitors can explore the tower and its surroundings, which include a scenic valley with romantic landscapes and beautiful trails and cycleways
