Pilatushaus

Building Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany

What to expect

The Pilatushaus in Oberammergau is a historic house decorated with numerous Lüftl paintings, including a depiction of Jesus being condemned by Pilate on the garden side of the house. The house owes its name to this scene. It features stunning trompe l'oeil and mostly religious scenes that have symbolic value. The house is considered a centre for arts and crafts and offers a 'Living Workshop' where visitors can watch artisans at work and learn about their crafts. The house has a rich history, having been saved from demolition in 1981, and has hosted several prominent guests, including the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm

Highlights: We enjoyed seeing the Pilatushaus. You can "watch artisans carving, painting behind glass or pottery" in the Living Workshop ✨
