The Kampenwand is a 1669 m high mountain peak in the Chiemgauer Alpen. Its summit cross is the largest in the Bavarian Alps and can be seen from afar. In winter, there is a small ski resort, and in summer, it is a popular spot for paragliding and hang gliding. The mountain is also popular with climbers, hikers, and mountain bikers, especially the south side, which offers numerous climbing routes of all difficulty levels. The Kampenwand can be accessed via the Kampenwandbahn, a cable car that runs from Aschau to the mountain station at 1470 m. The area around the mountain station has several alms with dining options. The mountain's distinctive profile and exposed location make it a prominent landmark, visible from the A8 motorway at Irschenberg. A famous Bavarian tongue twister also contributes to the mountain's high level of recognition

Activities: We took the Kampenwandbahn up, then hiked the trail. The path from Sonnenalm to Steinlingalm is easy and suitable for strollers, but the ascent to the Ostgipfel requires surefootedness and a head for heights
Highlights: We enjoyed the views and the experience of climbing the Ostgipfel ✨
