What to expect

The Wutach Gorge is a unique nature preservation area and a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. Located in the south-east of the Black Forest, it is a 30 km long and up to 200 m deep gorge created by the Wutach River. The gorge offers a large number of wonderful hiking tours, with parking areas for hikers and a hikers' bus available. The area is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including over 1,200 plant species, 500 types of butterflies, and hundreds of bird species. The gorge is also of interest to geologists, with its sloping rock layers and fossil rocks. Visitors can explore the gorge from west to east, with several starting points available, including the Gutach Bridge and the Schattenmühle information centre
