Sospel

Village Sospel, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

What to expect

Sospel is a small town situated about 15km inland from the coastal resort of Menton and close to the French border with Italy. The town is within the extensive Mercantour National Parc, with the busy Riviera resorts to the south and the mountains and remote perched villages of the Alpes-Maritimes to the north. An ancient town, Sospel became prosperous in the 13th century when an important salt trading route between Nice and Turin passed through the town. Visitors can explore the old town, which features a fortified stone bridge across the river, medieval houses, and attractive squares with traditional stone fountains. The town also has a baroque-style Cathedral of Saint Michel, which was built between 1641 and 1762. The surrounding area offers opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing, making it a great destination for families who love nature and history
