What to expect

The Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-Majeure, also known as the Cathedral of La Major, is a Roman Catholic cathedral and a national monument of France. It is one of the largest cathedrals in France, covering a total of 7,680 square meters, and can accommodate up to 3,000 people. The cathedral is a unique blend of Roman and Oriental styles, with Byzantine arcades, statues, and magnificent mosaics. It features a Latin cross plan in a Romano-Byzantine style, with white marble from Carrara, porphyry, onyx from Italy and Tunisia, and mosaics from Venice. The cathedral's construction began in 1852 and was completed in 1893, and it was classified as a historical monument in 1906. Visitors can admire its unique and majestic architecture, including the old cathedral, which is the oldest church in Marseille, built in the 4th century
