Pont d'Avignon

Bridge Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

What to expect

The Pont Saint-Bénézet, also known as the Pont d'Avignon, is a medieval bridge in Avignon, France. The bridge was built between 1177 and 1185 and originally had 22 arches, but only four arches remain today. It was an important crossing point over the Rhône River and played a significant role in the city's history, including serving as a border crossing between the Papal States and the Kingdom of France. The bridge has been damaged and rebuilt several times over the centuries, and its remains are now a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the city of Avignon. The bridge is also famous for being the subject of a traditional French song, 'Sur le pont d'Avignon'
