The Arles Amphitheatre, also known as the Arènes d'Arles, is a Roman amphitheatre in Arles, southern France. Built in 90 AD, it is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in the city and could hold over 20,000 spectators. The amphitheatre features 120 arches, an oval arena surrounded by terraces, arcades on two levels, and a system of galleries. It was used for chariot races, gladiatorial contests, and hunting scenes. After the fall of the Western Empire, it became a shelter for the population and was transformed into a fortress with four towers. Today, it is a popular venue for bullfighting, plays, and concerts. The amphitheatre has undergone restoration work and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site
