Minerve

Minerve is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. It is situated on top of the gorge of the River Cesse in a naturally strong defensive position. The village has a rich history, including being a bastion of the Cathars and being besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1210. Today, Minerve is known for its beautiful scenery, with the river disappearing underground in a large, naturally carved tunnel. The village has been selected as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France and is the namesake of the Minervois wine region. Visitors can explore the village's narrow streets, visit the 11th- and 12th-century church, and see the remains of the ancient fortifications, including the slender octagonal tower known as the Candela. The village also has a museum that presents the history and culture of the region, including its wine production and traditional crafts
