The Tour Saint-Nicolas is a medieval tower and one of the three iconic towers of La Rochelle, along with the Tour de la Chaîne and the Tour de la Lanterne. It was constructed after the liberation of the English domination in 1372, symbolizing the city's sovereignty. The tower served as a defensive structure, protecting against dangers from the sea, and was connected to its sister tower by a heavy chain. Today, visitors can explore the tower's unique architecture, featuring a double circulation system, various types of staircases, and a laboratory at its base for scientific research. The tower offers a stunning view of the Vieux-Port from its ramparts, making it a great place to visit with family and friends

Activities: We went to La Tour Saint-Nicolas, the tallest of the three towers in La Rochelle. It's 40 meters high. We climbed the stairs, one of our children needed to be carried at the end. There are explanations in all the rooms. "The visit is short but not too tiring and finally not too many steps."
Highlights: The view was magnificent: on the old port on one side, on Fort Boyard... They really enjoyed the visit. Even though the children were tired after the aquarium and the old port, "it was worth the look" ✨
