The Grand Trianon is a French Baroque style château situated in the northwestern part of the Domain of Versailles. It was built at the request of Louis XIV as a retreat for himself and his family. The palace is set within its own park, which includes the Petit Trianon. The Grand Trianon is renowned for its orderly gardens, filled with all sorts of orange trees and green shrubs, and its interior design scheme, which departed significantly from what Louis XIV and his architects had established at the Palace of Versailles. The palace has undergone several transformations over the years, including a restoration programme commissioned by Napoleon, and has been used as a residence for various members of the royal family and visiting dignitaries
