What to expect

The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a Baroque French château located in Maincy, near Melun, in the Seine-et-Marne department of Île-de-France. The château was built between 1658 and 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the Superintendent of Finances of Louis XIV. It is one of the largest châteaux in France and was a source of inspiration for the Château de Versailles. The château features a magnificent façade, sweeping views of the gardens, and beautifully decorated rooms with paintings, sculptures, and furniture. The gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre, are a model of the French style and stretch out over 33 hectares, with intricate box hedges and a mirror pool that reflects the palace. Families can enjoy the palace's Fountain Shows, hire little electric cars to discover the garden's secret nooks, and dress up in period costumes. The château also offers a Carriage Museum and a restaurant, Le Relais de l’Écureuil, which serves light snacks and full meals

VAUX-LE-VICOMTE CASTLE

VAUX-LE-VICOMTE CASTLE
This family's experience:

Activities: We spent time at the beautiful and well-maintained Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. The kids enjoyed going from room to room, discovering the bedrooms, kitchens, and offices. We did the free quizzes for the children, available depending on their age, and they got the chance to dress up. After the château, we watched a short film about the gardens' construction

Highlights: We all loved discovering this magnificent place! The children could dress up, and there were also the gardens to enjoy. "They may be very demanding and interested." ✨
