The Parc du Héron is a 110-hectare park located in the heart of Villeneuve-d'Ascq, offering a unique transition between urban and agricultural environments. The park features a large lake, the lac du Héron, and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including over 200 species of birds. The eastern part of the park has been classified as a Regional Nature Reserve since 1995, with the goal of preserving the site and providing educational tools for visitors to discover the natural environment. The park also includes the colline des Marchenelles, a 40-meter high artificial hill with a forest of 120,000 trees, and the Forêt des Anges, a forest planted in memory of deceased children. Visitors can enjoy walking and cycling paths, as well as various activities such as birdwatching and relaxation by the lake
