Cascade de Faymont

Waterfall Le Val-d'Ajol, Grand Est, France

What to expect

The Cascade de Faymont is a waterfall located in the Val-d'Ajol commune, within the Vosges massif. It is formed by the Dréhart stream and features multiple cascades over a 20-meter drop. The last cascade is 2.5 meters high and ends in an artificial basin, which was once a reservoir for the Faymont valley sawmill. The waterfall is accessible via a 2km hiking trail, with the last 400 meters being unmarked. The trail takes around 45 minutes to complete and has a 100-meter elevation gain. Visitors can also access the waterfall in about 20 minutes from a nearby parking area. However, it's worth noting that the waterfall often lacks water during summer or periods of high heat, making spring or autumn the best times to visit. The area is also home to other natural attractions, including the Roche Joséphine and the Chapelle du Motiron, which can be explored via a 9km hiking circuit. The circuit is marked with blue circles and takes around 3 hours to complete, with a 240-meter elevation gain. There is also a picnic area near the waterfall, and visitors are advised to keep an eye on their children and take their trash with them when they leave
