Place de l'Ancienne Douane

Square Colmar, Grand Est, France

What to expect

The Place de l'Ancienne-Douane is a public square in Colmar, France. It is located in the city center and is surrounded by several notable buildings, including the Koïfhus, a Gothic and Renaissance building that served as a customs house. The square is also home to the Fontaine Schwendi, a fountain built in 1898. The Koïfhus is the oldest public building in Colmar and has a double function, with the ground floor serving as a warehouse and tax collection point, and the upper floor hosting meetings of the Décapole, a federation of ten imperial cities in Alsace. The building has undergone several restorations, including a major renovation from 1895 to 1898, and another in 2002. Today, the Koïfhus houses a restaurant and hosts various public events and exhibitions
