Occi

Ruins Lumio, Corsica, France

What to expect

The abandoned village of Occi is a medieval village located on a hilltop in Corsica, France. It was founded by refugees from a nearby coastal village in the Middle Ages and had a population of around 150 residents by 1589. The village features drystone houses, stores, and a chapel, and offers breathtaking ocean views. Today, the ruins of Occi are a popular hiking destination, and visitors can walk the medieval streets, enter the renovated Chapel of Annuziata, and take in the stunning views. The village is also home to a Corsican mass on Pentecost, featuring singing by the Brotherhood of Sant’Anton Abbate. Families can visit the village with their children, but should be aware that pets are not accepted. It is recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and plenty of water, as well as a camera to capture the memories
