The Scandola Nature Reserve is a unique and fiercely preserved place located on the west coast of Corsica, within the Corsica Regional Park. The reserve was established in 1975 and has been recognized by the United Nations as a Natural UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. It occupies the Scandola peninsula, an impressive porphyritic rock mass with tormented shapes, and its vegetation is a remarkable example of maquis. The clear waters, with their islets and inaccessible caves, host a rich marine life, including seagulls, cormorants, and sea eagles. The reserve is strictly protected to return the area to its natural state, and the only way to visit it is by sea, with many companies offering boat tours to explore the reserve's incredible landscapes and geological formations
