City Auray, Brittany, France

What to expect

Auray is a town in the Morbihan department, administrative region of Brittany, northwestern France. The town is surrounded by the communes of Crac'h to the south and the west, Brech to the north and Pluneret to the east. It is crossed by the Loch, a small coastal river, which flows into the Gulf of Morbihan. The port of Saint-Goustan is also in the valley, east of the river. The town has a rich history, with the Battle of Auray taking place in 1364, and Benjamin Franklin arriving at the port of Saint-Goustan in 1776. The town is home to the sanctuary city of Sainte-Anne d'Auray, a major Catholic pilgrimage site in Brittany. The town also has a picturesque quarter of 15th-century houses, and a Gothic-Renaissance Basilica of Sainte-Anne d'Auray. Auray is a small service centre with some industry and tourism, centered around the town's port and yachting harbour. Families can enjoy playing the game 'In search of the Keys of Time' using a pack available from the tourist office
