The Gouffre de Poudrey is a vast underground cave located near Étalans in the Doubs department of France. It is the largest developed cave in France and one of the top ten in Europe by volume. The cave features an immense chamber with a volume of almost 1 million cubic meters, stalagmitic pillars thousands of years old, numerous stalactites hanging from the vault, and a small underground lake. A 'sound and light' show is presented to visitors at the bottom of the cave. The cave was formed by the dissolution of limestone rocks by surface water and is managed by the DREAL of Franche-Comté as a classified natural site since 1932

Activities: We went down 230 steps! The guide gave us historical information. We went down to a small lake, then back up with a son et lumière show. The kids complained about the cold. Then, back up the stairs again. Afterwards, we went to the snack bar
Highlights: Despite the cold (7 degrees!), we were happy to have discovered this cave. The son et lumière show was really nice. Despite the stairs the kids enjoyed the visit. "Once the gouffre itself was climbed, we abandoned our guide for the light." ✨
