The Lac de Guéry is a mountain lake of volcanic origin located in the Monts Dore, at an altitude of 1,244 meters. It is the highest lake in Auvergne and is surrounded by alpine pastures. The lake is 25 hectares in size and has a maximum depth of 16 meters. It was formed by a lava flow that blocked the course of a stream coming from the Puy Gros. The lake is a popular spot for hiking and fishing, and is also home to a variety of flora and fauna. In the winter, the lake is completely frozen and is used for ice fishing, a unique practice in France. The lake is also a starting point for several hiking trails, including the GR 30 and 4, and is close to the roches Tuilière and Sanadoire and the Banne d'Ordanche
