Plateau d’Emparis

The Plateau d'Emparis is a vast, green expanse located in the Oisans massif, comparable to the steppes of Mongolia. It offers breathtaking views of the highest peaks of the Écrins, including La Meije and the Râteau. The plateau is a protected area, classified as a Natura 2000 site, and is home to a rich biodiversity. Visitors can explore the area through various hiking trails, including the GR54, and can stop at one of the three refuges for a break or to spend the night. The plateau is also a significant pastoral site, with thousands of sheep and cows grazing in the area during the summer months. Families can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and taking in the stunning scenery, while also learning about the local flora and fauna
