Village Grignan, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France

What to expect

Grignan is a medieval village in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. It is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France) Association. The village is built on a rocky headland overlooking the surrounding countryside and is known for its Renaissance castle, which was transformed from a fortified castle in the 11th century into a prestigious 'pleasure residence' by the Adhémar family. The castle has a rich history, having been owned by several notable families, including the Adhémars and the Castellanes. Today, the castle is a Listed Building (Monument historique) and has been restored to its former glory. The village also offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the Mont Ventoux, and is home to several other notable buildings, such as the Saint-Sauveur collegiate church and the Lavoir du Mail washhouse. Visitors can enjoy the Festival de la Correspondance and the Soirées Musicales de Madame de Sévigné, which take place in the summer. The village is also known for its beautiful gardens, including the Jardin de Sévigné, and its production of lavender, truffles, and other local products
